Captioning Smart Glasses for the Deaf // AugmentOS

The world's best captioning glasses for the deaf and hard of hearing. 100% free.

Our team has been working on smart glasses for over six years. We've gone through five iterations of speech recognition technology, and we now have the best captioning glasses for the deaf and hard of hearing.

Our deaf and hard-of-hearing users have reported they tried multiple other alternatives before trying AugmentOS - and our subtitling glasses are the best.

The best part - since we're an OS with built-in captions - it's 100% free. Buy any pair of supported glasses and get unlimited free captioning.

Comparison of Captioning Smart Glasses

Most smart captioning solutions on the market are heavy, weird-looking, have low battery life, and cost thousands of dollars. Our solution is lightweight, normal looking, lasts, all day, and is very affordable.

Some solutions struggle because they don’t have a microphone built into the glasses. Our solution has a microphone built in. We also support using the phone microphone or an external Bluetooth microphone when preffered.

Another major issue is monocular vs binocular – which just means 1 eye (monocular) vs 2 eyes (binocular). Monocular might seem OK at first, but it leads to headache and fatigue for most users, and is very difficult to use for long periods of time. This is because our brain is not used to seeing anything with only one eye at a time. Binocular is much more comfortable, natural, and healthy, allowing for many hours of use. Our solution is binocular.

How Do I Get Setup?

To get running AugmentOS live captions for the deaf, you just need smart glasses and a phone. We highly recommend the Even Realities G1 smart glasses for this use case. We make no money/commission from Even Realities G1 sales – it’s just the pair of smart glasses that our deaf and hard of hearing users have had the best success with for this use case.

After that, you just install the AugmentOS app on your phone. Android is fully supported, and iOS support is coming March 21, 2025.

1. Buy smart glasses.

2. Install AugmentOS.

What's the Catch?

We get it, it seems too good to be true. How can we be better than all the other options… and free? This is exactly how:

We are a team building an operating system for smart glasses. Our goal is to make the platform on which developers build smart glasses apps, the app store for smart glasses. Early on, there’s nothing more valuable for our team than power users. We’ve found that the dozens of deaf and hard of hearing AugmentOS users have been super valuable in helping us improve the system. At the same time, we’ve been incredibly moved by the power this use case has to change lives. So we decided to make it completely free. In the near term, it will stay free. In the long term, our costs will grow, but we’ll always maintain a free tier, using on-device models or similar, so that we can continue to enable this life-changing use case.

A New Life Awaits
